Short answer
A. Lange & Söhne never made a watch called the Lange 2. The Glashütte catalog lists the Lange 1, the Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar, the Datograph Perpetual, and other references. "Replica Lange 2 perpetual" is a phrase used by sellers of counterfeit watches. No genuine reference matches it.
The closest real watch
The Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar arrived in 2021. Case diameter is 41.9 mm. The movement is the automatic L021.3, with a perpetual calendar module, a moon-phase display, and a day/night indicator. Retail prices start near $110,000 in pink gold and rise with the case metal. The Datograph Perpetual, sold since 2006, adds a chronograph and uses the hand-wound L952.1.
Lange builds movements in Glashütte, Saxony. Each movement is assembled, taken apart, cleaned, and assembled again. Company output is a few thousand watches a year across all lines.
What counterfeit versions contain
A perpetual calendar needs hundreds of parts beyond a standard calendar. Most copies sold under this term use a stock annual calendar or a date wheel with printed month names. Case metal in the copies is plated brass or 316L steel, not gold. Weight and thickness differ from the genuine piece. Sellers do not publish movement origin, jewel count, or beat rate.
Legal status in the United States
Importing counterfeit watches is illegal. 19 U.S.C. § 1526 and 15 U.S.C. § 1124 give U.S. Customs and Border Protection authority to seize goods that carry counterfeit trademarks. CBP reports thousands of seizures of watches and jewelry each year. Buyers can lose the goods and the money paid.
Service and resale
- Authorized Lange service centers do not repair counterfeit watches.
- Independent watchmakers often refuse perpetual calendar work on unknown movements.
- Dealers do not buy counterfeit pieces, so resale value is near zero.
- Correctors on copies often do not set the calendar in the correct order.
What is not known
Public, verifiable data on specific replica factories and their movements does not exist. Terms such as "Swiss movement" and "1:1" have no agreed definition in this market. Any claim about a specific copy needs inspection of the actual watch.
