Short answer
6654-1127-55 is a Blancpain reference. The complete code, 6654-1127-55B, is the Villeret Quantième Complet in stainless steel with a 40 mm case and a white opaline dial. "Replica 6654-1127-55" is a search term for copies of that watch. The genuine piece runs Blancpain calibre 6654, an in-house automatic movement with a 72 hour power reserve. Copies do not use that movement. They carry third-party movements and sell for a small fraction of the retail price.
The genuine reference
- Case: stainless steel, 40 mm diameter, about 10.9 mm thick
- Dial: white opaline with applied gold indices
- Functions: complete calendar with day, date, month and moon phase
- Movement: calibre 6654, automatic, 72 hour power reserve
- Crystal and caseback: sapphire
- Strap: alligator leather with a folding clasp
- Water resistance: 30 m
Blancpain dates the modern Villeret line to 1983, after the brand restarted under new ownership. Calibre 6654 sits in several Villeret models, so the reference number matters more than the dial family.
Where copies differ
Three points show the gap. First, the calendar. Calibre 6654 drives day, date, month and moon phase from the crown and from correctors under the lugs. Copies stack a calendar module on a base movement, so the pushers sit in the wrong place. Second, the moon phase. The genuine aperture shows a gold moon and stars on a blue disc that tracks 29.5 days. Copies print the disc and often advance it once per day. Third, the case profile. Copies run thicker, often 12 mm or more, because of the added module.
Legal status in the United States
Counterfeit watches are illegal to import and sell in the US. US Customs and Border Protection seizes goods that carry a counterfeit trademark. Buyers risk confiscation of the item and civil claims from the brand owner. Blancpain, part of the Swatch Group, holds registered marks on its name and logo. Marketplaces remove listings on request from the owner.
What to check on any sample
- Case thickness at the crown, measured with calipers
- Calendar change at midnight, not at noon
- Correctors under the lugs, two on each side
- Caseback engraving depth and font
- Movement finish through the sapphire back
Unknowns
Blancpain does not publish production totals for the reference. Retail price changes by market and by year. Serial ranges for the 6654-1127-55B are not public, so dating one watch from its number alone is not possible. No public list of factories that make copies exists, and quality varies between batches of the same code.
