A listing that says hand wound 7 day joins both references. That join is the first sign the seller works from a keyword list, not from a catalog.

Both movements carry two barrels. Twin barrels are how IWC reaches 168 and 192 hours from a single wind. That detail matters here, because the reserve is the part a replica cannot copy with a stock movement.
What copies change
A copy of the Portugieser case is not hard to make. A copy of the reserve is. Most fake 7-day Portugiesers run a 40-hour movement: a Chinese or Japanese automatic, sometimes a hand-wound Unitas-style calibre. Wound to the stop, the watch dies in 36 to 48 hours. The reserve hand on the dial then moves on a fixed gear instead of tracking stored energy.
Points to compare against a real watch: case thickness, movement engraving, finish on the bridges, dial printing, crown feel, and the serial number. A genuine caliber 59215 has Geneva stripes, blued screws, and a number that matches the caseback.
How to test a watch in hand
- Wind it to the stop. Note the time. Let it sit dial up for 72 hours. A real 7-day or 8-day movement still runs. A copy stops.
- Watch the reserve display. On a genuine watch the hand tracks hours left. On a copy it moves with the crown and parks at full.
- Open the back. Read the caliber number. 52010 and 59215 are stamped on the movement.
- Compare case thickness with the published figure. Copies run thin, because twin barrels need depth.
- Check the glass. Genuine uses sapphire with antireflective coating on both faces.
Legal status in the US
Counterfeit watches are illegal to import and sell in the United States. 19 U.S.C. 1526 lets U.S. Customs and Border Protection seize and forfeit goods that carry a counterfeit mark.
