Short answer

Omega does not make a watch named Master Chronometer 450. The phrase comes from search listings and seller titles. In most of those listings the number 450 is a price in US dollars, a rounded case size, or a seller stock code. Master Chronometer is a real certification issued by METAS. A replica watch does not hold that certification.

What Master Chronometer means

Omega and METAS, the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology, introduced Master Chronometer certification in 2015. METAS tests finished watches, not sample movements. Each certified watch carries a number that can be looked up in a public database.

  • Eight tests run over 10 days.
  • Exposure to a 15,000 gauss magnetic field, then a rate check.
  • Rate tolerance of 0 to +5 seconds per day across six positions.
  • Power reserve check, plus rate after full discharge.
  • Water resistance check at the declared depth rating.
  • Function check on the crown, hands, and date.

Why a replica does not pass

A certificate is tied to one serial number. Replica makers do not submit watches to METAS. Printed text on a dial is cosmetic. The parts that cost money are magnetic shielding, escapement geometry, mainspring torque, and rate stability after regulation.

What the 450 number means in listings

  1. Price tier. Listings near USD 450 sit in the middle of the replica Omega range.
  2. Case size. Omega builds Planet Ocean models at 45.5 mm. Sellers round that to 45, and some write 450 by mistake.
  3. Seller SKU or factory code. These codes change between batches.

Omega reference numbers look like 210.30.42.20.01.001 for a Seamaster Diver 300M. A listing that uses 450 as a model name is not using an Omega reference.

Checks buyers use on listings

  • Case diameter and thickness against the spec sheet from Omega.
  • Lug width, bracelet taper, and clasp code.
  • Dial text: font weight, letter spacing, position of the word Co-Axial.
  • Bezel action, insert material, and pip alignment.
  • Rotor noise, winding feel, and crown thread quality.

Limits to expect

No replica in the USD 450 band carries a METAS certificate. Long-term rate data for these watches is not published, so accuracy after one year is unknown. Water resistance claims are not verifiable from a listing. Resale value is near zero. Omega service centers refuse to work on counterfeit watches.

Legal note

Counterfeit watches carry a counterfeit trademark. US Customs and Border Protection can seize a shipment, and the buyer has no refund claim. Trafficking in counterfeit goods is a federal offense under 18 U.S.C. 2320.
