"Fake Omega 212" is shorthand for a replica of the 41mm Seamaster Diver 300M built on reference numbers that start with 212, most often 212.30.41.20.01.001. The good ones cost $250 to $650 and get the case, dial and bracelet close enough that only a loupe finds them. The cheap ones cost $80 and give themselves away in ten seconds, almost always at the bezel insert and the date window.
Reading the reference number
Sellers use "Omega 212" loosely, so ask for the full number before you compare anything. In 212.30.41.20.01.001, the 212 identifies the Seamaster Diver 300M line. The 30 covers case material. The 41 is the case diameter in millimeters. The 20 points to the movement family, and the 01 near the end is the dial color, black in this case. The final 001 is the variant, which usually means bracelet versus strap.
That matters because this generation sits before the 2012 refresh. It has an aluminum bezel insert rather than ceramic, a wave-pattern dial, and a solid caseback with the Seahorse medallion. There is no display back, which is one reason mid-tier fakes of this reference look convincing in photos. You cannot see the movement, so the movement is not what exposes them.
The three grades and what they cost
- Budget, roughly $70 to $150. Mineral glass, stamped clasp, printed bezel insert with a lume pip that sits crooked. The date font is wrong and often sits off center in the window. The wave pattern on the dial is shallow or missing ridges. Lume fades in fifteen or twenty minutes.
- Mid, roughly $200 to $350. Sapphire crystal, a clone of the ETA 2824 or a Miyota, solid end links that fit the case without gaps. The bracelet still feels light and the clasp engraving looks shallow under a macro shot. This is the sweet spot for most buyers.
- Top, roughly $400 to $650. Case dimensions taken from a genuine sample, correct 41mm width and lug spacing, ceramic-like bezel insert color match, sharp dial printing, date wheel with the right font. Movement is an Asian 2824 clone at 28,800 vibrations per hour or a real ETA pulled from a donor.
What to inspect before you pay
- The bezel insert. On a real 212 it is anodized aluminum with a matte finish and a recessed lume pip. Fakes use painted metal or glossy inserts that catch light wrong.
- The date window at 3 o'clock. Position, bevel, and font all matter. Crooked dates are the single most common tell.
- Dial printing. "Seamaster" and "Professional" should be crisp at 10x magnification. Blurry edges mean pad printing done cheaply.
- The helium escape valve at 10 o'clock. It should sit flush and align with the case line, not stick out or sit recessed.
- Bracelet end links. Gaps between the link and the case, or a clasp that does not close with a solid click, point to a lower grade.

A rate inside plus or minus 10 seconds per day with beat error under 0.5 ms is normal at this price. A 21,600 vph movement will look slightly choppier in slow motion and is a sign of a budget build.
Water, lume, and the rest
Treat every replica as splash resistant at best. Gaskets are rarely tested and crown threads are often cut to a looser tolerance. Do not swim with one and do not shower in it. Lume is the other weak point: cheap fakes glow bright for a few minutes and die, while better builds use a Super-LumiNova equivalent that lasts several hours.
One more thing. A genuine 212.30.41.20.01.001 trades in the low thousands on the secondary market depending on condition and whether box and papers are included.
