A fake Globemaster 40mm is a counterfeit of the Omega Constellation Globemaster. Omega's own catalog lists the steel Globemaster at 39mm. Many sellers list 40mm. Measure the case with calipers before you trust a listing.
What the real watch is
Omega released the Globemaster in 2015. It was the first watch to carry Master Chronometer certification from METAS. The steel model uses caliber 8900. Key specs: 39mm case, about 12.5mm thick, sapphire front and back, 100m water resistance, 60-hour power reserve, co-axial escapement, Si14 silicon balance spring, twin barrels, magnetic resistance to 15,000 gauss. The bezel is fluted. The dial is a pie-pan shape with applied indices and a date at 3 o'clock.
What the copies use
Most replicas of this model sell between $200 and $500. The parts break down like this:
- Case: 316L steel, machined to a stated 40mm. Thickness measures 13mm to 14mm on calipers.
- Movement: an Asian copy of the ETA 2824, or a decorated bridge set stamped to look like an 8900. Beat rate 28,800 vph. Power reserve 38 to 45 hours. No silicon spring. No free-sprung balance.
- Crystal: sapphire on better copies, mineral glass on cheap ones. Anti-reflective coating is single side or absent.
- Bracelet: folded or milled links, stamped clasp, no micro-adjust.
- Water resistance: unverified. Many cases have no gasket at the crown and fail a 3-bar pressure test.
Where the differences show
The pie-pan step is shallow on copies. The fluted bezel has wrong facet angles. The date font is wider. Caseback engraving lists the eight METAS test names, but the lettering is laser-etched, not stamped. The rotor carries no Si14 marking. The crown logo sits off-center. Bracelet end links do not sit flush with the lugs.
Limits to know
No Master Chronometer certificate ships with a fake. METAS tests each movement and records the serial number. Omega will not service a counterfeit and will not sell parts for it. In the United States, 19 U.S.C. § 1526 and 15 U.S.C. § 1124 bar import of goods that carry a counterfeit mark. CBP can seize the shipment, and the buyer loses the money. Resale value is close to zero.
