Short answer
Almost no fake Blancpain complication does what the real one does. What you get falls into three buckets: functions that genuinely run (date, moonphase, day-date-month calendars, basic chronographs), functions that are decorative (open dials showing a cut plate, a "power reserve" hand glued to a printed scale), and functions that only exist in the listing text (perpetual calendar, minute repeater, carrousel). If a seller promises a working perpetual calendar or minute repeater for a few hundred dollars, that promise is not real.

What Blancpain actually builds
Blancpain's reputation sits on the Villeret line, where a complete calendar with moonphase has been a signature for decades. Beyond that they make perpetual calendars, tourbillons, carrousels, minute repeaters, and a flying tourbillon with a carrousel. The Fifty Fathoms and Bathyscaphe dive watches carry simpler things: date, sometimes a chronograph, sometimes small seconds.
That matters because the replica market copies the look of the top of the range with the mechanics of the bottom.
The Ultimate Guide to Fake Blancpain Timepieces
Which complications show up on copies, and how well
- Moonphase. Common. Most use a 29.5-day disc driven off the hour wheel, so it advances correctly and drifts about a day every couple of years until you reset it. The cheap version is a disc printed with moons that spins once every 24 hours. Watch it for a day. If the moon runs a full cycle, the function is fake.
- Complete calendar (day, date, month). Usually a module bolted on top of a stock automatic movement. It works, but the date still jumps on the 31st, so you correct it after February. Real complete calendars share that limitation, which is why this one is often convincing.
- Perpetual calendar. Does not exist at replica prices. The "perpetual" label usually describes a complete calendar with a year window the owner has to advance by hand.
- Chronograph. The Seagull ST19 hand-wound column wheel is the best case. It starts, stops, resets, and looks right through a caseback. Quartz chronos also turn up, and the tell is a ticking small seconds instead of a sweep.
- Tourbillon. Real Chinese tourbillons exist and cost less than you would guess. Many "tourbillon" dials, though, are an open aperture over a balance wheel with no rotating cage.
- Minute repeater, carrousel, flying tourbillon, equation of time. Decoration only, or absent.
How I check one in hand
Push the pushers. A working chronograph starts, stops, and snaps back to zero without a stutter. Set the moonphase and count. On a complete calendar, advance the date past the 30th and watch whether the month flips on its own or waits for you. Look at the caseback. A solid one hides the movement, and on this tier that is a choice, not a design cue. Then check the weight. A perpetual calendar movement holds hundreds of parts, and a case that feels like tin is not carrying one.

What to expect at first-copy prices
Spend your attention on complications that can actually be built at this level. Moonphase and complete calendar Villeret copies are the strongest, because the functions are modules a decent factory can assemble and the dial work is what people see on the wrist. Chronographs vary a lot by movement, so ask which one is inside. Anything with repeater, carrousel, or perpetual in the description is a dial, not a mechanism, and you should price it that way.
One last thing. Blancpain is a trademark, and these pieces are not made by or affiliated with the brand. If a seller insists otherwise, that tells you more about the seller than about the watch.
