What a Constellation clone is
A Constellation clone is a watch built to look like an OMEGA Constellation. The case, dial, bezel claws, and bracelet copy the shape. The movement, materials, and finish differ. OMEGA has made the Constellation since 1952. The line is protected by trademarks and design rights, so a clone is not an authorized product.
Prices for clones run from about $25 to $500. Genuine steel Constellation models list between $5,000 and $20,000 at retail. The gap comes from movement, steel, crystal, and labor.
Genuine landmarks to compare against
Two features define the modern Constellation. The first is the bezel with claws at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock. The second is the integrated bracelet on Manhattan-style models, introduced in 1964. Current 39 mm and 41 mm steel models carry Master Chronometer calibers 8900 or 8901. Those calibers pass eight METAS tests, including magnetic resistance to 15,000 gauss. A clone does not carry METAS certification.
Dial and case details
- Claws sit flush with the bezel edge on genuine pieces. Clones show a gap or rough polish.
- Date window alignment at 3 o'clock. Text printing on clones is heavier.
- Caseback engraving depth. Genuine stamping is sharp and even.
Clone tiers and parts
Three tiers appear in the market.
Fake Constellation Brand: How to Spot a Fake Omega Constellation
- Budget, $25 to $60. Mineral glass, 316L steel, Mingzhu 2813 movement, quartz option. Water resistance is not tested in most cases.
- Mid, $80 to $200. Sapphire crystal, Seiko NH35A or a 2824 clone, screw-down caseback. Water resistance is stated at 30 m to 50 m.
- High, $250 to $500. 904L steel option, decorated 2824 clone or Seagull ST2130, closer case dimensions, AR coating on the crystal.
No tier includes a METAS-certified movement. No tier is assembled by OMEGA. Parts sources are not disclosed by sellers in most cases.
Checks before you buy
- Ask for the case diameter in millimeters. Genuine steel Constellation: 39 mm or 41 mm in current production.
- Ask for the movement name and beat rate. 28,800 vph points to a mechanical movement. 21,600 vph points to a 2813.
- Weigh the watch on a kitchen scale. Steel bracelets with hollow links read low for the case size.
- Check the crown. Genuine Constellation crowns carry the OMEGA symbol and seal against the case tube.
- Ask for the water resistance test. A pressure test report is a document, not a claim.
Labeling and law in the United States
Swiss Made has a legal definition. It requires at least 60 percent of production costs to be incurred in Switzerland. A clone marked Swiss Made without that work does not meet the standard. Import of goods with a counterfeit mark is prohibited under 19 U.S.C. 1526. CBP can seize the shipment. Sale of counterfeit goods is trademark infringement and carries criminal penalties under 18 U.S.C. 2320. Buyers face seizure and no refund. Sellers in the US face civil damages and, in repeat cases, criminal charges.
Serial numbers and reference numbers on clones do not match OMEGA records. OMEGA does not service clone watches, and its service centers return them unrepaired.
