Short answer
A fake Breguet with a tourbillon, perpetual calendar, or minute repeater sells for $120 to $900. A real Breguet complication starts near $40,000 and passes $150,000 at retail. The gap sits in the movement. No factory that turns out $300 watches builds a rotating escapement cage, a repeater with two gongs, or a calendar that tracks leap years.
Breguet Complications Clone Watch: A Practical Guide
What Breguet builds
Abraham-Louis Breguet opened in Paris in 1775. He patented the tourbillon on 26 June 1801. The house engraves three numbers on each watch: reference, case, and movement. Those numbers sit in the archive on Place Vendome in Paris.
Complications in the catalog and rough retail:
- Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat 5367, gold case, caliber 581 at 3 mm thick. List price above $150,000.
- Classique 5347 Double Tourbillon, two cages joined by a differential. List price above $400,000.
- Classique 3357 and 3358 tourbillons, discontinued. Secondary market $60,000 to $120,000.
- Marine and Type XX chronographs, $15,000 to $40,000.
Dial tells
- Hands. Breguet hands carry a hollow eccentric circle near the tip. Fakes use solid hands or leaf hands.
- Guilloche. Breguet cuts dial patterns on a rose engine by hand. Lines stay straight and cross at right angles. Stamped fakes show soft lines, flat centers, and uneven spacing.
- Secret signature. On many models the Breguet name and the serial number repeat inside the guilloche at 12 and 6. The mark is faint. Fakes print it bold or leave it out.
- Type. Breguet uses a cut serif face. Fakes use Arial, Helvetica, or the wrong weight.
Movement tells
- Tourbillon cage. The cage holds the balance and escapement and turns once in 60 seconds. Time one full turn against the seconds hand. Fakes run a cage at 30 or 90 seconds, or spin a disc with no balance inside.
- Rate. Real tourbillons beat at 2.5 Hz to 4 Hz. The balance beat is visible under a loupe.
- Finish. Breguet frosts or stripes bridges by hand, polishes screw heads, and sets jewels in gold chatons. Fakes show plating, glue, and machine lines.
- Numbers. The movement number is engraved and logged. Breguet checks a number against the archive for a fee.
Case tells
- Hallmark. Swiss 18k gold carries the St. Bernard dog head. Platinum carries the chamois head.
- Weight. A 40 mm gold Breguet head weighs near 70 g. A plated brass fake of the same size runs 35 g to 45 g.
- Crystal. Breguet fits sapphire. Mineral glass on a fake picks up scratches in weeks.
- Papers. A real set has a serial-matched certificate, box, and service book. Fakes ship with blank cards.
What a fake cannot do
A perpetual calendar rolls from 28 February to 1 March in a non-leap year with no input from the owner. Fakes need a pusher or a crown turn. A minute repeater strikes hours, quarters, and minutes on two gongs. Fakes fit a slider linked to nothing. An equation of time or a deadbeat seconds hand on a $300 watch is a printed label, not a function.

Legal position
In the United States, 19 U.S.C. 1526 bars import of goods that carry a counterfeit mark. Customs and Border Protection can seize and destroy the watch. Sellers use the terms first copy, AAA, and Swiss replica. The movement inside is not Swiss and not a Breguet caliber.
